5G risks: The research team discovered a major security vulnerability in the chip, and MediaTek and Qualcomm urgently released a patch

A research team from the Singapore University of Technology and Design recently published a series of security flaws found in the firmware of 5G mobile modems from major chip manufacturers. The flaws involve several top vendors, including MediaTek and Qualcomm. Research shows that many commercially available 5G devices, including smartphones, customer premise equipment routers (CPE) and USB modems, may be exposed to security risks. According to the report published by the researchers, MediaTek and Qualcomm have released security patches for 12 of the 14 vulnerabilities. Fixes for the remaining two security vulnerabilities are expected to be released shortly.
